A Bit About Me

Suicide is an epidemic in the teenager population and even with younger kids aged 10 to 14. Anxiety and depression are prevalent among our youth. These are sobering facts and the driving force of my passion to bring a glimmer of hope to my readers.

My finished project, Off-Step, deals with bipolar depression and suicide in the backdrop of a high school marching band.

As a nurse, I see more and more patients successfully living with mental illness.

Up to 45% of the teenage population may experience depression and/or anxiety with girls affected twice as much as boys.

Music plays an important role in my life, past and present.

I grew up singing in choir and with my sisters. In high school, I joined band and learned to play French horn. I still remember the off beat parts in marches.

I am the mother of three boys who played in high school bands, including jazz bands.

Music has been used as therapy and has been effective with alleviating symptoms of mental illness throughout history and continues to this day.

I am a member of Pacific Northwest Writer's Association, PNWA 2013 Literary Contest Finalist in the Young Adult category, and the Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrators.

After all, the event left her grandmother in a coma and her mother dead.
She doesn't remember what happened, but something did.
She can't enter her house through the front door, so the event must have occurred in the front room.
Maybe if she remembered, the flashbacks would stop.
