Smell of Fall

I love fall. All the colors. All the decorations. All the smells.

Pumpkin, cinnamon, apple. I love them all.

I don't like pumpkin pie to eat due to the texture, but I do love pumpkin spice latte.

Along with the scents and colors, this is a season change with colder temperatures, altered weather, and a time change. I could do without the darkness, rain storms, and cold. But fall gets us ready for winter.

Of course, not everyone experiences fall. California doesn't. I know that because I used to live there. I'm sure some other states also don't have a definitive fall.

Washington state (where I now live) has fall. Fall leads to winter which seems to last forever.

Fall gives us a chance to plan for winter and then for spring.

There is fall gardening. I don't do too much except turn off the automatic sprinklers, empty and cover the bird bath, and plant bulbs. I bought tulip bulbs today. Bulbs need to be planted before the first freeze. It will be down to 31 degrees next week, so I'll be planting those bulbs right away. (The picture above was taken our local nursery where I bought the bulbs.)

I enjoy planting bulbs because I like seeing pretty flowers in the spring, but first I need to get through the cold, dark winter.

Sometimes it is hard to get through cold and dark times, but hope helps.

Planting bulbs give me hope for spring.
